Educating our Children

April5

“Education would be so much more effective if its purpose were to ensure that by the time they leave school every boy and girl should know how much they don’t know, and be imbued with a lifelong desire to know it.”

– Sir William Haley

157079954 6129c7d4d5 Educating our ChildrenMy good friend – Kenneth came to the US to pursue a career of teaching.  He is currently teaching Special Education in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  He told me that it is indeed a challenge not only because he is tasked to handle tough students but also because of the difference in culture.  Back home, students have a high regard and respect to their teachers.  Here, his experience was the exact opposite.  They’d care less if their teacher is going to drop them out of school. This is a very challenging and demanding job but this seemed to be one of the recession-proof career and I’m talking about being an educator in general not just for special education.

In this regard, I have decided out of curiosity to search on what one needs to prepare oneself in taking this challenge – in being an educator and one of the significant mold of every person’s future.  If you are a graduate of a bachelor’s degree and thinking of pursuing a career as an instructor, online schools like Saint Xavier University offers an MS Curriculum. In fact, Saint Xavier University is the second largest provider of teachers in the state of Illinois.  Their online MS Curriculum is acreedited and will prepare the individual for continued development as a master teacher in school and other instructional settings.  This will also enhance the individual understanding on curricular issues and their impact on the instructional practice.   Since it is online, it is easier for busy individuals or professionals to fit the classes in their schedule.  Thus increasing your credentials without interfering with other responsibilities.

Don’t be just a teacher, be someone who will enhance student learning and make significant contributtions to the students and classrooms with this MS Curriculum.  Be prepared to make someone’s future a brighter.

I Need Some Space!

March15

When we moved here in our apartment, we have the option to choose between a 2 bedroom space or a 1 bedroom space. We chose the 1 bedroom unit thinking that the space would just be enough for us since it’s just me and TS most of the time and not to mention it has a gorgeous view of the lake. We have been enjoying the view so much but we are starting to suffer with the space.

The more things we buy to make this place a home, the more space we use and need.  Majority of the space was used by our large oak office desk which cradles our computers and 2 of which has 21 inches CRT monitors.    We still have more computer system laying around the house which shouldn’t be a surprise coz TS is an IT person and I love computers.  The thought of using KVM switches might help us save more spaces.  Having such, we will only be using 1 monitor and 1 keyboard for multiple computers.  Now, that has to be added in my goal list.

And since we only have 1 bedroom, guests who might be staying for the night will have to stay in the living in our uncomfortable couch until we get a sofa sleeper as a replacement.  When we get a sofa and a loveseat, it will definitely look crowded and I have to get rid of some things for sure. For now, I will have to maximize the space that I have and enjoy the view that I get.  In time, I will definitely get the space that I wanted…

Let’s talk about Boots

March7

lashed 2 black blue pink Lets talk about BootsBoot is one type of footwear that comes in various types and uses. There is always a type of boot that will fit you in any season. Boots are considered safety footwear and are commonly worn on cold weather as they cover at least the feet and the ankles and sometimes extend to the knee or even the hips that allows us to wear dresses on those cold days.

Boots were also worn as work-shoes because of their durability and dependability. Safety boots for example provide protection in the wilderness or industrial settings. Boots that have good traction, provides protection from chemical exposure, supports the ankle makes a boot a safety footwear that you can depend on.

Auto Insurance Compare

February28

There are many risks involved in owning a vehicle.  That is why it was made a statutory requirement in almost all the countries to have the vehicle insured.  There are many insurance companies that offers different insurance policies.

When you do auto insurance compare, you have to consider a lot of things. For one, think about the price of how much are you willing to pay. Shop for different rates. Let these companies compete for your business. Choosing the auto insurance should not only be based on which offers the cheapest policy. It should also be based on reliability, quality and financial strength. Insurance companies are rated base on how well they meet their obligations to their customers. So it is best to consider this as well. And most of all, consider the service. When we get into a situation that seeks for the rescue of our auto insurance, we don’t need a company that will just leave us behind when the time comes we need them. Research for customer’s feedback and learn more about the company.

There may be more factors to consider and it is up to you to set up qualifications and expectations for a good insurance policy.

Parking Spaces

February27

When we first moved in here in the complex, there was no separate garage available. There was also no space in the underground heated garage. Each lessee have at least one car. So it is not a wonder why the secured parking spots are all full. I wish they have car lifts that would at least provide extra secured parking spots.

We parked at the open parking lot.  One time when it was very cold outside and TS was on his way to work, he noticed a crack on his windshield.  Luckily, the crack did not ran across the windshield.  Instead, it was just at the middle bottom part.  Something that we can ignore for a little while until we are able to have it fixed.  The crack was caused by a sudden drop of temperature.  It got too cold and a chip from small rocks has led into a pretty big crack.

Well, we’re in Minnesota so we should expected things like that to happen because of below zero temperature.  But I’m still loving the place!

A Timepiece

February27

A TimepieceI got my first timepiece during my recognition day after finishing 2nd Grade as the 1st Honor of the class.  It was a black Benetton watch with colorful numbers on it.  It was given by my Manoy Brandit.  It was very special.  I could not remember what happened to it though.

When I grew older, I continue to fancy watches but could not afford it.  I was able to own a Timex watch because someone pawned it to me for a small amount of cash.  It was a big deal for me.  I thought that the brand is one of the most expensive watches.  It was not until I got here that I realized, there are watches that are even 10x more expensive than that.  There’s Movado and Torgoen watches to name a few.

Timepieces are ideally used to tell time.  But now it has beecome a piece of jewelry.  Many craftsmen express their talents in making elegant and attractive concepts of watches.  What is your favorite timepiece?

Would You?

February25

I have been debating on the idea of getting a life insurance.  When my sister told me that she and her husband got themselves a low cost life insurance, my initial reaction was to ask them what for?  Do we really need life insurance?

Ideally, a good life insurance policy would take care of the financial responsibilities that you left behind so family members wouldn’t be burdened.  Unlike an estate, the funds are readily available and are shot straight up to the beneficiaries.   But what’s stopping me from getting it are those instances that I see on tv and in the news.  Life Insurance has become a popular motive behind domestic violence.  So that definitely turned me off.

Howabout you?  Would you, get a life insurance?

At Buy.com

February20

christmas2008 052 small 200x300 At Buy.comThis is going to be a sincere recommendation I’d be giving to a particular site.  I shop frequently both online and offline.  But when it comes to buying something for TS, I’d shop online so he will have no idea what I bought for him.  Just like last Christmas, I bought a Garmin GPS for him.  He was definitely surprised and he loved it!

I bought the GPS from Buy.com.  I came to know about the website when tasked to make an assignment about them.  I was glad to know about the site because it has definitely saved me tons of money.  They have great deals and I mean real deals!  The GPS that I bought for TS costed about $969 when it first came out.  At the time of my purchase, other retailers sell it for more about $300 and I got it from Buy.com for only $154.  That is definitely a good deal!

You should check it out!

Sexy White Smile

January13
No matter how grouchy you’re feeling,
You’ll find the smile more or less healing.
It grows in a wreath
All around the front teeth -
Thus preserving the face from congealing.
~Anthony Euwer

We certainly don’t like to smile in front of the camera with a set of yellow teeth.  However, this could not be avoided as certain foods that we intake (e.g. coffee, coke) causes some discoloration in our teeth.  We always wanted to have a sparking white smile and we think that our only hope is simply by going to our dentist and undergo the bleaching treatment.

What Tomorrow Will Be

January11

In about an hour and 20 minutes, it is going to be our 3rd Wedding Anniversary.  Both I and TS had our day-off so we can spend time with each other.  It actually doesn’t matter to us what we will be doing as long as we are together.  What I am planning to do tomorrow is to slip in our Wedding Video and play it in our DVD player.  I just want to look back and watch the magical moment of our bond.

TS might have another plan for tomorrow.  Whatever it is, he is not telling me.  My guess is that he’s taking me somewhere for a joy ride.  TS and I love to drive around looking at sights while listening to the radio especially NPR.  This reminds me that we need to update our in-dash receiver since other than radio, it can only play CDs.  We were considering of getting a Sirius satellite radio or a Clarion VRX755VD which has IPOD compatibility other than its retractable LCD monitor and plays various discs formats.

Whatever activities we will be doing tomorrow, I’m sure it’s going to be one fine moment for both of us.  I am so blessed to be married to the love of my life who never fails to support me.  I could not imagine spending the last three years of my life and the coming more with someone else.  He is the one for me.  He is my destiny!

aboutme About

“There are as many nights as days, and the one is just as long as the other in the year’s course.Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness, and the word ‘happy’ would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness.”

This is my journey to life – an interdependence of actions and dreams.

I love to travel.  It’s how I learned to become more accepting.

I love my friends.  They brought so much color to my living.

I love my family.  They have never stopped giving.

I love my life.  I never ceased growing.
