Cowgirl in Minnesota... yeeeha!

Someone wearing a cowboy outfit would always get my attention whether it is on a special occasions  like Halloween, costume parties or on regular days.  I find it chic and sexy to see a girl wearing a cowboy hat.  Someone who wears a cowboy boots in skirts would definitely look fab.  For some who doesn’t have slender legs, a cowboy boots under a bootleg pants works best.  But where do we get them?  There are not readily available in the mall, are they?

Cavander’s Boot City is your one-stop store for western wear, cowboy hats, cowboy boots and western accessories for mean, women and children.  Check the site for great deals on popular and branded items like Wrangler jeans for example.  There is nothing you cannot find on this shop.

Your next outfit for your mechanical bull ride is just one click away.  All eyes will be yours as you struggle to stay in the bull, so why not dress well and look good for it, right?

IF
by Rudyard Kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream–and not make dreams your master,
If you can think–and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ‘em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: “Hold on!”

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings–nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much,
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And–which is more–you’ll be a Man, my son!

My sister- Rema found this beautiful and meaningful poem and she asked me if I could do something with it so she can print it as a poster, frame it and hang it on the walls of his boys’ room.  She discovered the poem during one epic tennis match -Wimbledon 2008 Finals that the BBC has screened.  Two epic tennis rivals – Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer read the poem “If” by Rudyard Kipling before they start to beat each other to win the title.

I have done the best that I can and I hope that my skill has done justice to the beautiful picture of my cute nephews and the meaningful poem of Rudyard Kipling.  If you want to print this image as a poster, feel free to do so.  If you click the image above, you will be directed to the higher resolution of which is best if you print large images.  I will print this myself and will hang it in one of the walls in our place.  A reminder that even if I don’t have a child or son, I already have my BOYS!

Going Back to Basic

I have gotten used to the convenience of the washer and drier.  But trust me, I came into a challenge when we started to live in an apartment where the unit doesn’t have its own but is shared by all the units in the same level.

It wasn’t bad at all.  I have learned to adapt the set-up until the obsessive-compulsive side of me surfaced.  I took pride in doing laundry.  That is because I make sure that whatever comes out of the dryer would not only smell fresh but absolutely clean.  I am very particular with whites.  I made sure that whites are pre-soaked overnight… if not with bleach at least with Oxi-Clean.  I want them to come out bright and spotless.  But not having the washer/dryer to ourselves brought a little concern this time.  I can’t soak the whites in the washer for someone might want to do the laundry before I do.  I made some thinking…

Then I came up with the idea of going back to basic.  I grabbed our laundry container and emptied it.  I sorted the clothes-separating the colored from the whites.  I then put enough scoops of Oxi-Clean and dump enough hot water in it.  Then I soaked the whites and made an effortful stir and left it overnight.

Going back to basic isn’t that bad at all.  Until…

Seafood Lover

I just happen to love food and I surely have the appetite for it. I have always been a seafood lover.  But it doesn’t mean I abhor the good tastes of pork, beef and chicken.   I love them too!  While we were in Tallahassee, we have the fortuity to dine at any restaurant we prefer.  And we have tried a variety of them from fast food to high-end.  Two great restaurants stand out – Ted’s Montana Grill (with their mouthwatering Bison Steak, garlic mashed potatoes, green beans and Coke Float) and Harry’s Seafood Bar and Grille (with their variety of seafood appetizers and sumptuous main courses to choose from).

Since both restaurants doesn’t have branches here in Minnesota, I decided to bring the flavors to my home.  I searched for seafood recipes online and came across www.GreatAmericanSeafoodCookOff.com.  It is a website that puts chefs head-to-head to produce one promising dish.  Yes, it is a cook off and only the best will prevail. Visit the website so you can vote for the best dish which you think deserves to win the cook off which will give you a chance to win a “Trip to New Orleans” Prize Package.

Among the five entries, my vote goes to Shrimp and Andouille Cassoulet of Chef Brian Landry from Louisiana.  The presentation was just great.  It definitely looks tempting. I love shrimp among other seafoods and the best part of it, the recipe is not at all very complicated.  A wannabe chef like myself can difinitely try to put the dish together at home.  I might have to skip the celery ingredient coz I’m not a big fan of it.  I wonder if not having such ingredient will differ the taste.  Hmmm… I’ll just have to see.

That’s gonna be one of the things that I’m looking forward to doing when I’m no longer stuck in my bed.  Trying this recipe will allow me to use domestic seafoods that are fresh, locan and it no doubt tastes good.  It’s funny how your mind tends to be so active when your body seemed so weak.  Gosh! I’m starting to crave and I want to end it soon….

A Must in NJ!

My cousin-Irene lives in New Jersey and she has been inviting me and Travis to go and visit her family. It sounded like a good idea. Visiting family is always a good thing. But aside from bonding with family, I asked myself if there’s anything in New Jersey that we should also check out.

My Red Blackberry Pearl

My Red Blackberry Pearl

You’ll be amazed at the small, sleek form factor of the BlackBerry Pearl. It’s like no other BlackBerry. But it’s more than just a new look. This BlackBerry delivers everything its predecessors delivered and a whole lot more. The BlackBerry Pearl offers new features never before seen in a BlackBerry like, a 1.3 mega pixel camera, voice recognition, and an MP3 player to name a few. Try it for a few hours and you are hooked!

Yes, you heard me right.  I have a new phone.  I earlier posted about my Blackberry Pearl 8100 White.  But yesterday, Travis came home with a surprise… the same Blackberry phone model but this time it’s in one of my favorite color- Red.  Ruby as others call it.

True enough, this phone is outstanding when it comes to functionality, this is not far behind the other Blackberry devices.  It has been proven from the time that I used it.  Today, after I got from my interview and decided to hang out at Travis’ workplace, I used my blackberry to serve as modem to connect to the internet since there was a very low Network Connection avialable in the Lunchroom where I stayed.  Prior to that, I have been exchanging YM messages with Melody and my sisters while we were still driving and did not have access to my laptop.

I am loving it especially not that it comes with my favorite color.  Of course, I have my own wallpaper set-up.  The same wallpaper I have in my laptop.  So, wherever Travis will be, he can never be too far away.  He’ll just be in my fingertips….

Summer Heat?

The temperature lately has cooled down. This could be because of Hurricane Gustav and other tropical depressions that have been visiting the country lately.  Summer may have unofficially ended but the summer heat is still here.  Have you ever tried getting inside your car without a working AC?
