A Metro Transit Virgin

December 20, 2008. I had to get up early yesterday and go with TS to FedEx Kinko’s as I needed to print a document that will be essential for my possible employment in the future. Instead of going to his work with him, we both decided to just go to FedEx Kinko’s and do what I had to do. After that, he just dropped me at Ridgedale Mall where I waited for the bus that would take me home.
I am a Metro Transit virgin. Since I arrived here in the US, I never step foot on any public buses (except during the MN State Fair that they have special routes). I was pretty anxious. It was 14 degrees Fahrenheit outside and I still had at least 30 minutes to wait for the bus. I went inside the mall to wait for it. I checked on my mobile phone for the time every now and then.
Five minutes before the scheduled bus arrival, I decided to go outside the mall and head to the bus stop. The bus arrived about 2 minutes late but it was okay. I didn’t know the proper protocol on how to pay so I just asked the bus driver and he told me that I am going to pay when I got off the bus. I must say I was a bit tense. TS didn’t want me to be in the bus because there are not so very nice people around. But since we live in a nice neighborhood and there are not much “crazy” people around our area, he allowed me to take it. Contrary to my belief, the people there looked friendly. I still decided not to talk to any of them though but I was kind enough to give them a smile.
As each passenger took off on their stop, I was the only passenger left in the bus. The driver was friendly enough to chat with me and he told me about the interesting Minnesota winter. I on the other hand told him about the Philippines, The Netherlands and Florida – comparing their cold seasons to Minnesota. We had a great chat until I have to pull the cord that ran across the entire bus to signal the driver for a stop. I told him that about my stop but being a metro transit first-timer, I had to experience signaling my stop.
I had to walk about 0.3 miles from the bus stop to my home. Other than I was very sleepy the entire ride, it was a good first time experience. When I got home, I took a relaxing hot shower and ended up sleeping the rest of the day until it was already time for TS to come home.
I hope you guys are having a great weekend! It’s snowing here in the Twin Cities and I just love it!

This reminds me of my ‘Metro de-virginizing moments’ in Paris and Singapore
You too, Have a whity weekend!
those were the days! i miss my communiting days in the Netherlands. it was just an ease.
hello sweetie! how are you today? We have a blizzard here right now. It is just wonderful to see the snow dancing in the wind but at the end of the week, I cant leave house again. I am a prisoner of our own home right now huhuhu
Good luck to our weather hehehe
we are expecting to have 5 inches of snow this weekend. i liked watching the snowfall. and so far, i still like going out with snow everywhere!
I’m glad that your first transit ride was uneventful… It sounds cold in the Twin Cities! That is one of the nice things about being in Arizona–warmer weather, but I do miss the snow and having a white Christmas…
it is cold in the Twin Cities right now. i too am glad there was nothing too memorable on my first transit ride.
if you miss the snow and all, just give us a visit around here!
Thats nice, i wish i could try to ride in that Transit, but not sure if there’s a bus transpo here that exist.. as i don’t noticed it though…
Answered your comment in the previous post check it HERE
i have always wanted to take the bus, Novs but TS is so protective. he would rather drive me anywhere I want than me takign the bus. but this time, he doesn’t have a choice.
i admire your guts ,that is so brave of you i think taking the bus by yourself or even metro transit. It took a year for me to get used of going out in the house by myself.
i have always been indepenendent. was used to taking public transit in the netherlands. TS was giving me precautions on the buses here which somehow made me a little scared.
i’m sure it’s an adventure!
yes it was. but i was too sleepy to enjoy it though. hehehe:-)
Commuters like me always have fun…
…..u can always meet a lot of people…
u know the type..all type..it’s cool.!
i agree! always enjoyed it back in the Netherlands.
I really love reading your post such as this one, your daily living over there in Minnesota. Nice to imagine how life goes on on that side of the globe.

hi Ken!
i’m still not confident taking it even if I already had my first time. i might take it again only if the need arises.
Hey my Jacy girl…wow! it was fun for you going in that bus..hehehe! thanks so much for the beautiful card, we were in church on Christmas Eve with your sis madon….Merry Christmas to you both…love & hugs always..muuaahh!!!
hello sis!
it was an experience! i’m glad you like my card. sorry if i took awhile to reply. i got sick since Christmas eve.
Hello Jacs! Hope you and T had a lovely Christmas.
I remember the first time I took the bus here in OZ. Although the trip was uneventful, Will and my MIL were pretty scared when I told them I took the bus. (Yes, they were thinking of the not so nice people too). But it was good fun…an adventure.
hello Herms!
sorry it took me awhile to reply. i was sick since Christmas eve and just got better now. it is so funny coz they are more scared than us.
Hi, interesting. In germany, precisely in cologne you would not be allowed to pay when you leave the bus. You have to pay in advance and there are ticket-machines in each bus….
Have a nice weekend….
it is the same with my experience in the Netherlands too!
actually here in the Minneapolis, MN, you pay once you hop in the bus if it is going towards downtown. and pay before you get off if it’s moving away from downtown. this is usually done on rush hours. i haven’t experienced other hours so i’m not too knowledgeable about it.
hi jacy! thank you so much for the christmas card. I got it just today right after we came back from our 3 days trip. Mao gyud ang nisugat namo..hehehe..
Happy New Year !
tc
i’m glad you got, ate Eden. hope you had a great holiday!
