What’s Up Doc?

November3

lop rabbit easter Whats Up Doc?It is a popular line from Warner Brother’s torch-bearer – Bugs Bunny.  But I am not here to blog about the cartoon character itself.  I am here to write about what’s up for dinner. I have already laid down the clue.  We didn’t have Bugs Bunny  but we had Peter Rabbit in our dinner plate one night.

Dad gave us at least 3 whole pieces and it has been sitting in our fridge for quite sometime.  I have been hesitant to cook it since for me, it is a pet and not meant to be eaten.  But I ran out of meat variety and needed to prep this unless I will have more smoked sausages or bratwursts again.

Still filled with scruple whether what I was doing was the right thing to do, after I defrosted it for at least 2 days, I opened the package and found the lifeless thing covered with blood.  Well, it has already been skinned and beheaded but you can still identify what king of living thing it is with its position.  I couldn’t do it, I almost vomited and TS took over.  He had rabbit dishes many times before and he didn’t feel aweful doing it to the poor little thing.

We cooked the rabbit the same way as we cook “Lechon Manok”.  We stuffed the animal with spices which includes lemon grass, scallions and garlic.  We rubbed its body with salt, garlic, onion powder and pepper.  And we tossed it in the oven for at least 350ºF for at least an hour.  Then it turned out just as how we expected it to be.  TS chopped it into pieces and I can smell the goodness which made me starve and forget about PETA. Now, dinner is served!

it actually tastes good momi lods. it’s better if you put tenderizer so the meat will not be tough. ours was kinda but it wasn’t really that hard.

it somehow tasted like chicken but it has a distinct aroma. i haven’t tried turtle or frog. and since you’ve tried these, i’m sure you can manage to enjoy rabbit for dinner.

As I was reading your post, I thought you were not going to eat it (you almost vomited).

But you did. And I guess you liked it.

    I don’t think I can eat a rabbit.

i think you can eat it especially if you don’t know it’s a rabbit. *winks*

i think i forgot about how pathetic the thing is when i started to smell it from the oven. not to mention I missed Lechon Manok from the Philippines.

I have eaten grasshoppers and frog from my grandmother’s province when I was a kid. But that was it, I never had more since them

My cousin ate rat from the rice field and he said it tastes good.

most wild animals doesn’t usually die in comfort, Wen. most usually die a violent and agonizing death. if they are not shot, they are usually run killed by a car, predator, exposure or starvation. so hunting which results to having it in our dinner table is no worse than the other ways wildlife perish.
