Fish bite and You get hooked!

catch2 300x240 Fish bite and You get hooked!Minnesota has been known as The Land of 10,000 Lakes and that is no exaggeration. In fact, Minnesota for real has 11,842 lakes over 10 acres in size. In warmer months like this, outdoor recreation often involves water. Weekends and summer vacations to family cabins in the numerous Minnesota lakes are a way of life for many residents. These activities involves water sports like water skiing, boating, canoeing and fishing. More than 36% of Minnesotans fish.

Last weekend, I made my first attempt to discover why a lot of people get hooked with this hobby called fishing. Travis and I bought a combination Angling license (husband and wife) online for only $26. Individual license will cost you $18 for residents.  Licenses are also available to purchase for non-residents.  Here are the different types of fishing license and its corresponding fees: LICENSES and FEES

This fishing license can be use for the entire fishing season. Without the license, you will be fined and will have the risk of confiscation on whatever properties you have with you while fishing. So, it’s better to get one whether you are a resident or not. You can purchase a license online using this link: https://www3.wildlifelicense.com/mn/

Travis bought me my first fishing pole and he got one for himself too.  Of course, I made sure that my pole would represent me so I chose a pink one.   The preparation for the fishing activity just excites me and on the eve of the 4th of July after TS got back from work, we headed to Fergus Falls in Ottertail County.  It is a very convenient location for us.  Travis’ grandparents live in a farm land of which the Ottertail River passes through it.  They have a big backyard that they turned into a camp site.  So, it was not just fishing for us but camping and spending time with family as well.

catch 300x240 Fish bite and You get hooked! It was Friday morning when Travis and I decided to hit the County Road and walk towards the riverbank with our fishing poles and stuff.  Of course, we didn’t forget our Banana Boat SPF 50 aerosol sunscreen for Travis.  And after covering him with it, we started casting and reeling.  First and couple more casts, nothing.. I got nothing.  I am starting to wonder why people love this boring hobby.  But not until I saw a couple of bass swimming towards the shallow end of the river underneath the tree.  Travis realized that caterpillars would fallfrom the tree and the popular gamefish would swallow whole the pitiful larvae  in his mouth.  We then decided to pick out those black hairy caterpillars and stuck them on our hooks.  It was not too long when a sunfish grabbed my bait.  It works and I finally got my first catch!  But I was too afraid of living fish that I have to let Travis get the thing out of my rod.

Earlier that time, there was a lone smart fish by the rock.  No matter what lure or bait I use, it never minded me.  I then asked TS to get this fish which seemed to be laughing at me because of my failed attempts.  With just one cast and a quick tug, Travis got it and it was a rock bass.  Still, I was scared to get hold of the live animal.  Travis just had to to do things by himself and put those two fishes in the stringer.  After catching two fish, we called it a day and enjoy other things.  My left eye was infected that day so I decided to rest while Travis and his uncle’s family went tubing along Ottertail river.

The following day, I was too excited that I woke up early and had our stuff ready.  We fish the whole morning and there was never a moment that I got bored.  I got 3 bass and 2 sunfish.  While Travis got a northern.  The rest of the day was spent scaling, cleaning and getting the guts out.  I decided to cook the fish Filipino style- with its head intact.  Fish has always been my favorite apart from other seafood like shrimp and scallops.  But it has never been yummier!

I now discovered and knew what more than a million licensed anglers already know…fishing is a wonderful way to get away, enjoy the outdoors and connect with nature.  Fish do bite and you get hooked by this calm, relaxing but exciting hobby called Fishing!

Do you know Jacy that I have a new fishing pole too? It was all new, still in the box, never been used or whatever. I also have my Kentucky fishing license but we never did have the time to go fishing because of my big lazy butt couldn’t get up out of the bed early in the morning, hehehe

    hello Haze!

that’s what Minnesota is known for. the lakes vary in sizes. some are like ponds but some are like the ocean e.g. the Superior Lake. it was a sight to see no?

yey! pareho diay ta. we both have new fishing poles. you should try to use it. it doesn’t take too much effort to fish. you just have to cast and reel. the best time to catch they said is early morning and late in the afternoon. you should try to make use of what you have like the license and pole. i’m sure you and Winn will have a great time.

When you caught that fish, that explains half the emotions of your life.

If I go down in for anything in history, I would like to be known as the person who convinced the American people that sunfish is one of the finest eating fishes in the world.

Have a care-free spirit when fishing, Jacy! -xoxo-

    jacy,

there is a river near where i live and people fish there but it is a very polluted river
and there’s no way i’d ever eat fish from there or from the great lakes probably
either. they are polluted as well but probably safer than the river. i’ve heard it
said around here that the only thing safe to eat is ocean fish. i don’t believe that
but the river is definitely out!

    jacy,
banjo was really sweet–he offered me a few of his mykonos themes so i
can learn to work with that base. i think i hate it just as much as i hate red
frog. i’ve got a partial theme going but it’s so hard. i’ve never worked with
layers before except for a background and divpagestart so it’s been
quite frustrating to make all the layers go together. so far i haven’t come up
with anything i quite like. mykonos is nuts!

regarding themes, who’s banjo? i am not quite sure i know him. i haven’t played much with themes again. it might be soon though. i never dared try to explore other themes. i’ll let you know if i am back to it again.

    jacy,

please do not be disappointed in me but i quit mulitply. too much drama
and crap has gone down there the last few months and i am royally stressed
out and just can’t take it anymore. after i went pro i lost my interest in making
themes because multiply made such a fuss of it or we’d lose our pics. it wasn’t
right in the first place. i’m not made of money. my sis and i are on 360. at
least that’s one place that drama rarely happens. the stress on multiply has
been making me sick. the only reason i kept sticking it out was because i loved
making themes, but not anymore. it’s not fun anymore, just work and drudgery.

maybe there is another place i can go to do the same thing. t hat would be nice.
maybe you and i could start something ourselves. doesn’t have to be a lot of
    people there.

i feel a bit of a loss but what am i supposed to do? i am only human and can only
take so much. banjo is another theme desginer who works mostly with mykonos.

    Deb,

this comes as a total surprise for me. i’m sorry if there’s a lot of crap going on and you can no longer take it. I have not visited multiply for the past 3 days so I don’t really know what’s going on. I have gone Premium just to protect my images. I still have tons of work needed to be done and I haven’t attempted to catch up.

I will find you in 360. Although I don’t have the luxury of time to get online lately. But I will try to keep in touch. About your idea of having both of us work on something, I was thinking we can probably do some blog skins and stuff or simply digital scrapbooking for fun.

I’ll keep in touch for sure. And no, I’m not disappointed with you. I love you! You are like my sister already.
