After I made an entry about Acquiring a Schengen Visa, google search has brought enough traffic to my site. Many people came to my site to find answers to their questions. Because of this, I am setting up a Schengen Visa FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) based on the searches they made on google that lead them to my site. Hope this will be a good help.
Can I travel by road, boat or plane to other countries with a Schengen Visa?
Yes. You can use whatever means of travel you prefer as long as the country you are visiting is a member of the Schengen organization. According to the so-called Schengen agreement, tourist and business visas issued by a mission of one of the following countries are valid for travel to Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain and Sweden. As of 21 December 2007, 24 states and Monaco (treated as part of France) had abolished border controls on persons among themselves, an increase from 15 on 20 December 2007. The nine new countries which entered the Schengen travel area in 2007 were: the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia. Switzerland has finally joined the Schengen Agreement last December 12, 2008.
Can I change my main destination after I get my Schengen Visa?
Yes. You can change your main destination or even your port of entry even after your got stamped for Schengen Visa. When I applied for Schengen Visa, I presented a plane ticket reservation to enter and exit Amsterdam. When I got my visa, I found a better airfare deal and I can fly sooner if I enter Brussels, Belgium and exit Amsterdam, The Netherlands. So, I took that flight and had no problems whatsoever with the Immigration Officer.
Can I use my Schengen Visa for my second visit?
Depending if you have a Single or Multiple entry Schengen Visa.
Single-entry Visa: This visa allows uninterrupted stay. Once you depart the Schengen territory, you can no longer enter again without obtaining a new Schengen visa.
Multiple-entry Visa: This visa allows multiple stays in one or more Schengen countries as long as the total length of your stay does not exceed 90 days in a given 180 days period from the date of yourfirst entry. You may stay continuously or you can spread it over several visits within the validity period of the visa, but no more than the number of entries allowed on our visa. Multiple entry may be valid for 1 year.
If your visa entry shows “02″, you are allowed two entries. If your entry shows “MULT”, you are allowed more than 2 entries. Multiple entry visas is not issued at all consulates/embassies.
How much does a Schengen Visa Cost?
Currently, Schengen Visa costs €60. Children below 6 years old are exempted from this fee. There are other exemptions of which you should check on your Consulates or Embassies.
How long does it take to process a Schengen Visa?
It usually takes 3 weeks to process a visa. If you have a complete requirements, it is possible that it could be sooner.
Who doesn’t need a Schengen Visa?
European Union (EU) nationals don’t require a visa for stays of up to 90 days. Nationals of the following countries do not require a Schengen Visa: Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Bermuda, Bolivia, Brazil, Brunei, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, El Salvador, Estonia, Guatemala, Honduras, Hong Kong (Blue Passports Only), Hungary, Iceland, Israel, Japan, Korea (Rep Of), Latvia, Liechenstein, Lithuania, Macau, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Monaco, New Zealand, Norway, Panama, Paraguay, Poland, Romania, San Marino, Singapore, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Switzerland, Uruguay, USA, Vatican City and Venezuela.
If you are not on the list of countries above, you will need a schengen visa.
These are some of the usual questions and answers regarding Schengen Visa. Should you have any more questions, just leave me a comment below so I can include it in the FAQ above. Hope you find this helpful. Good luck on your visa application!

Hi,
I was issued Type-C visa with MULT number of entries for duration of stay of 30 days. Validity of visa is for 1 year. Found on internet that this means that I can be for up to 30 days in first half of year, and than, it resets, and I can be again for 30 days in second half of year.
Is this truth?
Note: I found the information on Czech Republic Embassy site in Tel Aviv
hello Radovan!
It is true. Technically, the maximum C visa is 90 days. if you are given this as the maximum, it can be used within a 6 month period accumulated or used straight. In your case, 30 is your maximum stay and it is only valid for 1 year. So you can spend 30 days straight on the first 6 months or you can enter and exit Schengen territory of which stay will total to 30 days within the 6 month period.
Advice if I got ETATS SCHENGEN VISA c type multiple entry for three months for the duration of 30 days then I can fly or travel to any schengen state how many times I like during three months or else & each time I can stay 30 days or one stay will be 30 days or these 30 days will be distributed in three months equally.
hi
i’m planing to visit Geneva and I’m Indian, but i live in Toronto and i have canadian
permanent resident card, so do i need to apply schengen visa ?
Yes you have to apply a Schengen Visa. Indian Nationals among other countries are not exempted from getting a Schengen Visa.
Hi, I’m Vietnamese, I have long term residence visa valid to 30th Nov,09 (one year working visa) issued in Czech, but now I’m living in Vietnam. To my understanding, I can use this visa to travel Shenghen countries but want to double check for sure: can I use this visa to enter Sweden without calling Czech? Thanks very much for your reply.
hi Mai!
that should allow you to visit our Schengen Territory including Sweden.
Thanks so much for yr reply Jacy
you’re welcome, Mai.
What happens if you are denied a Schengen visa twice? My Ukrainian friend thinks that that means you cannot get a visa for 10 years. Thanks for your help.
I am not certain if that information is accurate. I’ve read online that someone was already rejected twice. And was able to apply for the third time. Unless the conditions of an applicant has changed from their previous applications, it is likely that the decision will remain the same.
i have applied for swiss visa for a period of 6 months , already got a living permit for 6 months, but in the visa stamped in my passport it shows dates from 28 jan to april 5th 2009.my visa type is D , whether i can stay for a period of six months once i enter swiss or does it mean my stay is only from 28 jan to 5 april 2009.
hi jacy, help me by answering

Hi,
I have swiss work permit with me.
Will it be useful for me to work in germany??
hi Prachi,
A swiss work permit can only be used in Switzerland. you may be able to visit other schengen countries but you cannot work in other schengen countries. however, there are certain limitations of work permit. so, you better ask your alien police to be certain if you can travel to other Schengen.
1 thing is for certain, you can’t use this to work in other countries.

Hi Jackie!
sorry if it took me awhile to reply to your query. allow me to list the requirements that are needed just to give you a checklist to see if you got everything:
1. Application Form completely filled up and signed.
2. 2 recent passport photographs with applicant’s full name and birth date written on the back (1 picture glued to the form; 1 loosely attached)
3. Valid passport (valid for at least 3 months after expected date of return; passport must not be damaged) and Xerox copy of the applicant’s passport (pages containing data and Schengen-Visas)
4. A letter of invitation of the person in Germany including a photocopy of his passport.
5. A letter of guarantee or Original Affidavit of support (“Verpflichtungserklärungâ€), together with proof of income (which must be equal or higher then the minimum wage for an adult in Germany) such as the 3 latest salaryslips of the host.
6. Round-trip confirmed flight reservation and complete itinerary (NOT airline ticket, you can actually just ask this from your local travel agency free of charge. just a reservation with your name and the flight number should work. don’t purchase a ticket yet since it is not a guarantee that you will be given a visa even if you have an airline ticket)
7. Proof of health insurance valid for all Schengen States covering an amount of € 30.000
8. do you work? if so, provide an Employment Certificate or a recent employers’ statement that should mention salary, date of entree and duration of absence
9. For students: registration from a school or university and if travelling during study period, certificate from school of university with permission of absence
10. Declaration to be signed by the applicant
11. if you have previous passports, provide them as well
if you have all the documents and you can readily answer what questions the consul has for your like, what’s the purpose of your trip? how long will you be staying there? how do you know this person inviting you? who’s paying the expenses? and others, you should have greater chance to be granted a visa. other than that, it all depends on the consul.
good luck! and let us know how things went with you.
hello… i am an indonesian student with a schengen student visa, in italy. so, i need to extend my student visa in september, and the nearest indonesian consulate is in ROME, and i am in MILAN. it’s like padang from jakarta. can i go to this near (not) consulate to extend, or …do i have to go back to the italian embassy in jakarta to do it.
forgive my ignorance…
michelleworth
hi Michelle!
since you are having a Schengen Student Visa, I don’t think you need to got to Indonesian embassy or consulate to apply for the extension. you should be able to do so in the alient police or the local italian authorities there in Milan since the extension that you wanted is for your Schengen Student Visa not to travel to Indonesia. Just my 2 cents.
by the way how much is the proof of funds that i need when??be specific plz
Jacy,
Thanks alot for your support, just wanna know what do you think about this…
I have a residence permit in Qatar where I work, the company told me that it will be better to reapply for the visa from Qatar as they can offer more support.
Actually I am worried since I was denied the visa from the italian embassy in Egypt so do u think they might refuse to accept my application if I applied from Qatar or it’s OK since we’re talking about the same country here.
Thanks alot
hello Karim!
with regards to the approval of your visa, it actually depends if your condition from your first application has changed. if it hasn’t, wherever you apply, the decision might still be the same.
what is the purpose of your trip? did you know the reason why you were rejected for the visa? if so, can you do something to avoid such rejection?
hi.
I have been googling but cant find the proper infosmations.I wonder if you could help me with my case.
My girlfriend is a swiss national and lives in switzerland.I am an Indian national and live in uk on workpermit.
We have plans to get married in June in switzerland.I have tried to contact swiss consulate in london,as they dont have direct line,Call goes to VFS Global, some kind of Agency. They only deal with tourist visas etc,not with Fiancee visas.
They have advised me to go to London in person, but I love about 200 miles away from London,so quite hard for me to get down there.
Do you have any informations regarding that?
What kind of documents do i need to send to swiss consulate in London for fiancee visa?
How is the procedeure?
How long does it take normally?
Would be grateful for your quick responce.
Thanks in advance
I am an Indian staying in Portugal for 6 months. I was initially issued a visa for 3 months(multiple entry) and I was asked to extend it after arriving in Portugal. However, when extending it for the next 3 months, the number of entries was changed to ’00′. Now can this visa be used to travel to any of the schengen states or is it limited only to Portugal?
I found out I can travel but its illegal. Like there’s no passport control and no one checks the visa, but its illegal to travel. Seems sometimes the country gives visa only for one nation, like portugal, but its very rare.
Jacy,
Thanks for your support…my question now is regarding a tamp they gave me recently when I went to inquire about my application and I was told that nothing is wrong but some missing papers…
this stamp says “Without Prejudice” do you know what does it mean ?? is it better or worse for me to have it??
Thanks again
Hi;
I am a Canadian citizen and plan to spend most of the next six months or so in Spain. It was my expectation that if I left the EU or Shengan area the 90 day limit on my stay would start again. Do you know if I am restricted to 90 days in 180 if I don’t have a VISA. I am not in my home country now and heading to Spain in a week or so, so applying would be troublesome. Thanks for your help;
Monte
Hi Jacy!
Thanks for your help last time! I’m traveling to Europe again, this time with my brother. I’m an Indonesian student, currently holding a Student card in Singapore.
I didn’t have any problem with the Netherlands Embassy last time, and for the coming trip, I’m going to apply to the same embassy as I’m spending the longest part of my trip there.
We are entering the Schengen area from Paris and leaving from Amsterdam, visiting Switzerland, Italy, and Germany. We plan to travel within the area by trains (using Eurail pass).
We have fixed itinerary, confirmed hotel bookings, and air tickets, but we haven’t bought the train tickets yet. Is the train ticket required too for Schengen visa application? The requirement list they give only mentions about inbound-outbound air tickets though.
Thank you!
Kharisma Tanoto
you don’t need it Ica. but if you have it, so much the better. i wish you good luck and i have no doubt you will enjoy it!
Hi Jacy, my husband got his Schengen visa at the German Consulate as we thought we will go to German and France in march 09. Can we change our main destination as we would like to go to Paris only by using the same Schengen Visa the german consulate issued? Please kindly advise. Thansk.
there should be no problem with it. is it a multiple entry or single? you should be able to use it to enter schengen even if your itinerary has changed.
Hi Jacy,
My wife and I have applied for a Schengen Tourist Visa through the Swiss Embassy here in India. We have submitted all travel documents including our confirmed return air-tickets, all train & hotel booking vouchers. Now the thing is, I work with my father in his business, and hence I had to submit his financial papers which are actually his business’s papers and letter from him stating that he is funding the trip. Our plan is – we travel to Switzerland where we stay with a friend for 14 days and then go to Prague for 3 days – return to switzerland for a day and then go to Paris for 4 days and from there to London for 3 days before returning to India. We already got the UK visa. Is there any loophole out here which may prompt a visa refusal ? I have submitted an invitation letter from my friend staying in Switzerland, and for other places I have submi8tted the hotel booking vouchers,.
Hi Jacy,
I was just issued a Schengen Visa today by the German consulate and found out that the dates on the visa were inaccurate. My visa application had the following dates 2/16/2000 – 4/11/2009 and I provided flight details and iteneraries for my several flights back and forth US and Germany (business trips) for the aforementioned period; however they only retained one of the itenararies (3/08/2009 – 3/22/2009) and told me that that was the basis of my visa date. Given all of that, I am not sure what to do, because I was already expected to be in Germany ASAP and then now I had issues with the dates. Would a visa extension be the best alternative for me (from 3/24/2009 – 4/11/2009) given that the company I work for will be writing requests and stating the urgency that I stay in Germany up to that date?
I forgot to mention that I am a US resident with a Philippine passport. Since I have already gone through the whole 2 week application process, which they granted me a visa (Multiple Entry, 15 days), will it still take a long time to file for an extension (2 to 3 weeks again)? Will I be able to still leave on 3/08/2009 for Germany while I am still waiting on my visa extension to be processed in the US? Is it possible for me to leave the German consulate a copy of my passport instead and fly back to the US to get the extension stamp? Your thoughts will be truly appreciated.
Thanks a lot.
hi Alli!
I am curious why you sent them two itineraries? the consulate or embassy would always base their decision (as to the approval or rejection, duration of stay) upon the documents that you submitted them. what were those two itineraries? does it include 2 entries and exits to the territory? if so, that could be the reason why you were granted the multiple entry visa for 15 days each entry.
to be honest with you, i have not experienced extending a visa. but as what i’ve heard, it’s very time consuming and it is rarely granted. but since you have multiple entry visa, all you need is to exit or take a trip outside the Schengen territory and back again. then you’ll have another fresh 15 days.
but if you think the days they granted you came as a mistake, you can always ask the embassy or consulate to have them fixed it for you. i had that experience on my last visa application. the number of days they stamped on my passport does not correspond to the number of days i have on my itinerary. but since there was no time for them to give me the correct visa, the Netherlands embassy just faxed me a letter stating the correct number of days that i was granted for and that they made an error in their part. i simply presented that document when i enter and left the Schengen without any problems.
Hi Jacy..
Sorry to bother again, but I’ve asked a questio regarding a stamp I was given recently by the italian consulate when I went to inquire about my application and why I wasn’t granted the Visa and I was told that nothing is wrong but some missing papers…
this stamp says “Without Prejudice†and I wonder what does it mean ?? is it better or worse for me to have it??
Hope u can help…Thanks again
did they not ask you for those documents that you lack?
“without prejudice” means that the decision made on that visa application cannot be used as a precedence to the future visa application that you will be having.
so it’s not really a bad thing. just make sure next time you apply, you have all the papers needed.
Hi Jacy
I am studying german language in innsbruck, Austria on 90 days visa. Actually I was enrolled in such a short course as it was not clear by that time if it will work with me. Now I feel that I will be sucessful in the language all along. Is it possible to extend my student visa after applying for the new 180 days course and bringing the confirmation letter from the school(a different one in vienna)
Hi Jacy,
I am pretty frustrated by my schengen visa application and wonder if you could kindly give me some insights.
I am a Chinese national and working in the States with h1 status, hence my h1b visa has only 3 months validation. I applied for a schengen visa in french embassy after I renewed my visa, but was denied because they require the us visa to be at least valid for 3 months after the last day in france.
it is impossible for me to retain such visa as 3 mons is the longest i could get as a Chinese. does it mean I could never visit europe as long as I work in the US? is there really such a requirement? i see only 30 days is required in their website. it seems to me they just want to reject me anyway…
Thank you!
Y
Im going to Italy this 10 April until 13 with my bf. However, the earlist appointment that Italia embassy can give me to apply for a visa is on May.My flights and hotel are fullypaid. Also im going to spain this July for 1week, and im booked for an visa appointment this 24 March.Do you think the spanish embassy will give me schengen visa from 10 April and i can still use it on July to spain? after Italy im going back to Iraland were im currently living and go to spain on July.
the embassy usually gives you the visa depending on the documents you sent. so if you are going to apply for spain, you will have to present your itinerary entering the territory on April and leaving it on July. but since you won’t be staying there for that entire duration, you need to apply for a multiple entry visa.
hi there, me (holiday maker visa),my fiance(permanent residency visa for UK) and his mom(british passport) are planning a trip to the canary islands in spain.my fiance has not worked in the last 3 months thus his mom will sponser his holiday what do we have to do
are you in the UK right now? i know your fiance can apply for a visa in UK since he’s a permanent resident. but i am not certain if you can. you will have to check it on your embassy. you’ll have to supply certain requirements.
Hi Jacy, seems I can ask you about my case.
I just got TYPE D visa from germany embassy in Jakarta.(I’m Indonesian)
Since I just got ticket to fly to germany by transit in netherland (Schiphol) then, do u think i can go to germany from Schiphol by train by using this type of visa?
I am a bit confuse..
but u can refer to this:
National visa (D visa)
You will need to apply for a national visa (D visa) if you are planning to stay in Germany for more than 90 consecutive days, for instance for a prolonged visit, or if you will be studying or will be employed in Germany. The relevant German diplomatic mission (embassy or consulate) will initially issue you with a visa with which you will be able to enter Germany.
A national visa entitles you to reside in Germany and is usually valid for a period of three months. Before this period expires, you must apply to the relevant Foreigners’ Registration Office (Ausländerbehörde) to have your D visa extended by a residence permit.
Depending on the purpose of your visit, it may be the case that the national visa can only be issued with the prior consent of the Foreigners’ Registration Office at your future place of residence in Germany. Consent of this type will be required if, for example, you are coming to Germany to study, to apply to study, to work, to join family members already in Germany, or to get married.
The consent of the Foreigners’ Registrations Office is not necessary for:
* Visiting scientists and scholars and their families, if the academic visit has been arranged through the agency of a German scientific or academic organization (DAAD, DFG, AvH, etc.) and the visitor has been awarded a scholarship or grant from public funds.
* Visiting scientists and scholars and their families, if they have been invited to Germany to engage in scientific or academic research by a university or other publicly funded research institution.
* Foreign students who were selected by a German scientific or academic organization and who have been awarded a scholarship or grant from public funds.
it was taken from:

thank you very much
Type D Schengen visa
National visa for a visit of up to 90 days, valid for the territory of the Schengen State that issued the visa (in your case Germany) but also valid for transit through the territory of other Schengen States(Schiphol, The Netherlands) for the purpose of reaching the State that issued the visa.
Hi Jacy,
I am planning to take a 2 day stop over in Brussels while going back from US to India. I am currently in US on H1 Visa which is valid till 2011. I am flying from US on 5th April. Since it is already 24th March, what are my chances of getting the schengen visa in time. I already had made my Hotel bookings in brussels and had already got a connecting flight from Brussels to India on 8th.
Thanks in advance.
Nitin
Schengen visa processing time usually take about 3 weeks. you can give it a try but it may not come on time.
Hi Jacy,
I want to apply for a Schegen visa to travel to Rome from the French Embassy(as i’ve heard its easier and they are more likely to grant you a 1yr visa), is it necessary for me to travel to France if they grant me the visa?
Thanks,SP
I am Pakitsani national and have Schengen Visa valid for one year from Sep 08 – 09 with multiple entry. Visa Type is C + D. I obtained this visa from Italian Embassy in Pakistan.
The reason to get the visa is to avail the study course in Italy for one year, but later i changed my plan and didnt joined the course.
Now i am planning to visit Italy and other Schengen States for tourism purpose. Is there will be any problem to visit these countries.
My 2nd Question is, that from the italian embassy i got one paper which states that.
National visa is valid for long stay in Italy, and short transit to other Schengen States ( 5 days maximum), is that means that i can stay in other Schengen countries only for 5 days?, though my visa type is C + D.
Urgent response will be appreciated as i plan to visit Europe in 2 weeks time.
Regards
Jade
hi Jade!
Upon entry, the immigration officer might still asked for your documentation to prove that you are going their to study since it was the reason the visa was approved for. I could also be wrong. Some immigration officers, overlook it too.
Your D+C Schengen visa allows you to be a resident in Italy and travel as a tourist in the other Schengen countries during the time your D+C visa is valid (in your case a year). As a resident of one of the Schengen countries and holder of a D+C visa you get the same privileges in regards to tourism inside the Schengen Area as an American, Canadian, etc citizen who can enter visa-free. This tourist travel to (other) Schengen countries (not Italy in your case) is limited to 90 days in a 180 day period, so yes, the validity of the C part of your visa is 90 days. But it is tied to the D part of your visa (the Italian residency permit), which means that as long as the Italian residency permit is in effect the C visa is valid too.
In effect, that is what Schengen is all about: a common travel area. The ideas were that first a tourist visa is valid for all Schengen states. Second idea was that a resident of one the Schengen states (holder of a D-type visa) should not need to apply for a visa when he wants to go for tourism to another Schengen country, even if he would otherwise need a visa for tourism purposes, thus the construction of the D+C visa.
I have one more question, i read on several websites that validity for the C type visa when issued with D +C visa is 90 days from the date of validity, is that means that visa issued to me on sep 2008 is no more valid to visit other schegen states.
Some websites states that, these 90 days are for a 6 month duration. so if i plan to go to other schengen states now, can i visit the other countries as i will be availing the 90 days for my next set of 6 months for my visa?
I need a clear information regarding it, as i have to visit over there. detailed response will be appreciated.
Regards
Jade
Hi Jacy. I have a question regarding traveling after the expiration of my Visa. I was issued a Type D Swiss visa to study abroad and I have a US passport. I found out that I was issued the wrong visa (I needed type C) and now I don’t know if I can travel around Europe AFTER my visa expires. Please help me find the right answer for this because it has left me confused and worried. I know I can travel within Switzerland with this visa, but I will be going elsewhere, within Europe, after the expiration date. Salamat in advance!
hi Melody!
technically, you don’t need a Schengen visa to travel to the Schengen territory since you are a US passport holder/citizen. upon entry in the Schengen region, your passport will automatically be stamped for 90 days.
since you have a swiss visa to study, you might want to verify it at the embassy just to play safe.
Hi, jacy, i recently visited schengen states with type C visa single entry for 10 days, i had overlooked the duration of stay and mistakenly overstayed in germany (my final destination) for four days, i had paid a fine of 300 euros me and my wife 150 each and 30 euro each after came back to pakistan. the immigration people said at germany they will release a clearance letter after having received the full amount. it’s been 2 months now, i havent received any response from them. what should i do now to get me a my wife cleared for the next trip to schengen states and what would be the implications for overstaying in germany for 4 days.
you will have to contact your embassy as to how the process goes.
such overstaying might have an effect on your future visa applications in the future though.
Hi. I got my schengen visit visa type C from the 9-04-09 to 13-04-09 (5 days) from German Embassy. those r the dates i appiled for. Now i want to visit earlier.. Can i get them to change the visa dates from 6-04-09 to 11-04-09? as the duration of stay stays the same… which is 5 days?
awaiting your reply..
thanks a lot
you can ask the embassy to do that but you will have to show a proof that you are entering and leaving the schengen states on those dates.
or can i re-apply for before dates? :s
Hi Jacy!
I’ve found your site very helpful. You are doing a great job. Congrats!
I need an urgent reply as I will be applying for my Shengen Visa this week: I am from Ecuador and want to apply for a German Visa (I have an invitation letter from a relative). I already have ticket reservation for Germany. However, a friend of mine is asking me to visit him in Spain and also, I have found out that the flights to Spain are cheaper than going to Germany, so If I get my German Visa next week, Could I just change my flight as follows: Chile – Spain – Chile (entering the Shengen through Amsterdam) and fly to Germany from Spain after I have visited my friends? and going back to Spain for my flight back home.
I would appreciate it, if you could responde asap.
Thanks so much in advance
hi Kai!
that sounds like a fun trip for you. You can certainly enter and exit Spain with your German visa if granted since Germany will remain your main destination. =) Good luck!
I am US permanent resident with China passport. I just got Schengen visa from Netherland consulate in Chicago. If now i change my trip from chicago to Paris-Sweden-Amsterdam-Rome-chicago, May I in trouble for this Since Visa from netherland and now enter Paris first for couple days ? will i get troublem in PAris airport ?
not a problem. as long as you stay in the Netherlands the longest which makes it your main destination. =)
you won’t be in trouble. just let them know that your main destination is Netherlands upon entry.
I am an American. I worked in Poland and the company lied to me and refused to give me a work permit. I am overstayed in Poland by 2 months. Is it possible for me to visit Ukraine and be able to come back to Poland?
i am not certain how strict Poland is for overstaying a visa. since you already overstayed, you might be put on the database and will give you trouble when you go back to Poland or visit another EU in the future. before your visa expired, you could’ve exited to Ukraine and go back to Poland to get a fresh 90 days stay for 180 day period. but i guess that’s too late for now.
hello……am a student from currently studying in ukraine…..i intend to visit france…poland and sweden which are all schengen countries…..what are the requirements as i can find any useful source on the internet…what categories of visa is required…..
if you simply want to visit, you need to get the Schengen Visa. you will have to identify first which country is your main destination and apply for a visa at the embassy of that country otherwise, apply at the embassy of the country of your point of entry.
Here’s an idea of the requirements: http://simplyjacy.com/travel/acquiring-a-schengen-visa-31/
visit the embassy website of the country you are planning to go for more info.
hello jacy, i just to ask something about my visa.. i have a schengen visa, type C issued by the netherland embassy and it says that it is valid for all schengen-staten with code BNL9319168, and i am now in the netherlands, but i wanted to visit my aunt in norway and my boyfriend tells me it is not valid to go there, is it true or he is just making stories so i cant go visit my aunt?..please help..galibog najud ko..thanks a lot…more power and Godbless..
you should be able to visit your Aunt. Norway is part of the Schengen territory. i see no reason why you can’t visit the country especially that you have the type C visa.
Hello,
I hope this email finds you in the best of spirits.
I have a Schengen business visa (multiple entry) issued by the German consulate, which is valid till 28th of April, 2009. However, my travel plans have changed slightly since the time I applied for my visa, due to unavoidable circumstances.
I need to travel to Germany in the last week of April and attend business meetings in Sweden till the first week of May.
Will it be possible for me to get a Schengen business visa to Sweden while my current visa issued by Germany is still active, if I submit all the necessary documents?
Your response will be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks and Kind Regards,
Mamta
hi Mamta!
the best thing for you to do is to call Swedish embassy and see if you can get a new visa for that business trip starting from the expiration of your other visa. or you can call German embassy if it’s possible to extend the duration of your stay and that you are willing to provide additional documents to prove the business trip to Sweden and a new date of your return ticket.
i can only give you my opinion and the rest is still up to the embassy or consulate. i wish you good luck on this one though. take care!
jacy please if you have time, chat me at my ym. please..badly need your help.mao ni ako ym go_akleilujna06@yahoo.com..thank you so much…
i just sent you a message dear.
Jacy You didnt replied over my visa issue ):
thank you soo much jacy for the info.. and i still have one question, because i have a single entry visa.. if i go to my aunts in Norway, can i still go back here in my boyfriend in Netherlands??…thank you so much. . more power…
Norway is part of the Schengen territory. That means when you go there, it is not considered as an exit. You are still traveling within the region. So you can move freely back and forth from Norway back to Netherlands many times.
Btw, where in the Netherlands are you staying?
but still jacy he says i cant go, and we always fight for it, I am in Zeewolde, staying with him, he says that my visa is just allowed for benulux, netherlands and luxemborg and no other countries, but i also ask the embassy of norway and i snd a copy of my visa they say my visa is valid to go there.
Anjuli,
You have the Schengen C type visa and it should allow you to visit Norway and come back in the Netherlands. I don’t think your case is a matter of Schengen. I guess it’s a personal matter that you and your boyfriend have to discuss. If he wouldn’t allow you to go to Norway for some reasons (financial or time), he should be open to you about it. And you should also have an open mind as to why he doesn’t want you to go there in Norway.
hello jacy,
we already discussed about it, but still he stick to wat he say about my visa, that it is only valid for Benulux,Netherlands and Luxemborg and no other schengen country, becoz my visa has a code BNL blah.blah numbers… but anyway thank you soo much for your info, i just want to prove that if he is telling the truth or just making stories, well its very obvious already… salamat kaau jacy..i will just finish my two months vacation here and go back in phil….Continue helping people..it means a lot..More power…
Jacy,
Thanks for the reply, but i have read on various forum that validity of C type visa , when issued with D+C is valid for 90 days from the date of issue of the visa.
Few places its just written 90 days valid.
I am confused if i go to Italy , still i can move to other countries ( Schengen State) for 2 weeks time or its not possible to do so.
Regards
Jade
Typically for a C visa, the 90 days starts upon entering the Schengen territory. and that 90 days is valid within a 180 day period.
So i don’t see any reason why you can move to other countries as long as your D visa is still in effect.
How you will comment over the discussion i made on the following link
Please see this link

like t_maia said, your Schengen C visa will only be valid alongside your Schengen D. since you have not used the D visa, the C won’t be valid.
Hi Jacy,
I have to Canada on Work visa. I am returning back to india on 26th June and my canada work permit is good until 1st july. Since my travel is via Paris I am planning to stop over in Paris for 3 days. Is it possible for me to get Schenzen Visa from Canada.
i don’t see why not. but just to be safe, call your french consulate or embassy just to make sure.
Dear Jacy,
It is good luck to find ur blog. I am in Madrid to study Spaish. Now I have a Spaish student visa(type D) which is valid until 17th April. My concern begins this point.
[my concern]
As you know, the students who want to study in Spain for long time have to be issued ‘Student Identification’ (Tarjeta de Estudiante) by Spanish police station. So I, as other foriegn students, asked to issue it. However, in Madrid, there are so many foreigners, the Spanish police allowed me to register to submit documents and materials for issuing at 10th JUNE. It takes tooooo long time. (I must wait for approximately 6 months even to hand in my document for getting student card, similar to residential permit since I arrive in Spain this 18th January.)
So for now, I don’t have student identification but only have a print-out of my appointment (we can print out it over Internet) which can prove that my asking for permit to study for 1 year. And I have a papers of my study plan from Jan to August issued by my Spainsh Language Center.
At this situation, after my present student visa is expired at 17th April, before I get long-term staying permit in Spain, I must go to London and Prague from 25th April to 4th May.
Each travel is on purpose of as below.
1. Madrid -> London : In order to attend a academic conference
2. London -> Prague : In order to have a vacation
Finally I have to be back to Madrid to study again. It is somewhat complicated situation. To speak addtionally, basically Korea has a mutual agreement of non-visa travel for 3 months with most of Europe nations.
The reason I have not yet got the permit residential here is not my fault. So if I cannot get out of Spain for over 6 months, I believe it is a nonsense.
Jacy, could you kindly recommend for me? I am very concerned about this.
Many thanks in advance. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.
hi jacy,
our family friend invited my brother to visit them in sweden so he applied for tourist visa but with no luck he was denied.paid someone who knows and do that work for a long time.i trusted her and all the dox needed are all ok.its all provided .the only reason daw was its because in the form that he filled up,one of the questions he answered “we didnt meet personally and means of communication is through internet.its through internet coz our family friend didnt visit our country for 20 years.he is 2 years old when our family friend last visited us.
is that really a big deal or its because of what is written in the invitation letter that he had a brother working in italy?the one who process his documents told us that its better if we will indicate it there for financial support.i told her that its nonsense and questionable but she insist and got mad.do u think thats the reason or its because of the stupidity of that woman who doesnt accept suggestions?its just a waste of time and money u know.will it take months before my brother can get another appoinment?
thanks and looking forward for your answer.
